Through Grace
Christianity is an incarnational religion. As such, the goal is not simply to abandon the world, but to sanctify it. This is why the Church says that the fundamental vocation for every person is holiness. In the daily grind, one can encounter grace and sanctification if we follow St. Paul’s words, “whatever you do, in word or in work, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17). And so, our personal spiritual growth often is intertwined with fulfilling our responsibilities.
Now, obviously, at times we do need to take a step back for quiet meditation. Indeed, the Lord has established a day of rest so that we can worship Him. Further, some are called to follow the pattern of Christ who went away by Himself to pray. Yet, this does not create a dichotomy, but a harmony: our lives lead to prayer and prayer leads our lives.
