Who am I?

Defined By God

This is the same question that John the Baptist answered in response to the crowds (John 1:19-23). His response should guide our answer as he first states who he is not, then acknowledges who God is, and finally receives his identity in relationship with Jesus.

I am not … defined by the culture in which I live. Nor am I merely the sum of my experiences. I am more than the gratifications life offers. As such I reject self-definition based on relativism, existentialism, hedonism or any other prevailing “ism.”

Who God is … the source of all being and meaning. We know God by His actions of saving, redeeming, reconciling, and personal love. Above all, we come to know God through His Son, Jesus.

Who I am … revealed in relationship with Jesus. I am a beloved child of God, a friend of Jesus, a member of His Mystical Body.
