May 14, 2025 – Carson City, Nevada – Reverend Tomy Joseph, pastor, has announced the 75th anniversary of Corpus Christi Catholic Parish located at 3597 N. Sunridge Drive, Carson City, Nevada.
Father Tomy and parish leaders have scheduled the parish’s 75th Jubilee Celebration on Saturday, June 21st, 2025. Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Daniel Mueggenborg at 4 pm, followed by a Eucharistic Procession around the church property. Afterwards, the celebration continues with food trucks, an ice cream truck, all with items for purchase in the church parking lot. There will be games and activities for all ages.
Parish records show that on June 15, 1949, the Bureau of Indian Affairs granted Bishoр Thomas Kiely Gorman, Bishop of Reno, permission to build a mission and school on an acre of land at the Stewart Indian School in Stewart, Nevada. Later that year, with the help of Native American stone masons Joe Burkeheart and Randy Wurgnema, construction began on a 2,900 square foot building designed by Ferris & Erskine, Architects.
By May 1950, the Corpus Christi Church building was completed, and the first Mass was celebrated by Bishop Gorman. As the parish outgrew the small church, then Pastor Fr. James Setelick oversaw the next phase of Corpus Christi Church history with the building of a new church on 7.5 acres, located in Douglas County, before the freeway
was built.
The 15,000 square foot building was completed with the first Mass celebrated on July 18th, 2009. A Mass of Dedication was celebrated by Bishop Randolph Calvo on August 11, 2009.
On July 1st, 2024, Fr. Tomy Joseph was named as pastor and installed by Bishop Daniel Mueggenborg on July 7th, 2024. Fr. Tomy is glad to invite the community to attend the jubilee celebration.
