Generally Good

Generally speaking, religion enriches society because is assists us in our search for truth, meaning and purpose — all of which are essential for happiness. In addition, religion reinforces the universal moral code that provides the ethical basis for social interactions and personal rights. Without religion, such codes become arbitrary and subjective.

Religion also inspires human creativity to express beauty, truth and goodness through various forms of art and architecture which are esteemed as some of the greatest treasures of humanity. Religion has the power to unify and focus a community on a common goal while respecting the diversity of society. Religion has even fostered the advance of scientific study.

Like almost anything, however, religion can be misused, politicized and weaponized to advance the malicious desires of persons and political groups. While such misuse does not diminish the inherent good in religion, it does warrant careful scrutiny of motives and means.
