Depends On Where They Are Flowing…
For Catholics, the question is not so much about going with the flow, but knowing where the flow is going. The Lord has made us rational beings and has given us both the gift and responsibility of free will, calling us to participate in His action in the world. And so the question becomes: What is the right thing to do here and now?
As such, at times we are called to “go with the flow,” especially when we know that the path we are on is leading us to the Lord; this can be a great exercise of humility and trust in God. Yet, at other times we must act; to stand idlily by when confronted with injustice is not just sloth, but sin. To paraphrase Chesterton’s Orthodoxy, Christians who must act must go like thunderbolts, and those who must stand their ground must become as immovable as statues.
