Needs and Humanity of Church

Pope Leo XIV recently explained that he chose his name based on the ministry of Leo XIII, who issued a landmark Encyclical entitled Rerum Novarum in 1891. Leo XIII addressed the challenges presented by the industrial revolution and the dignity of the human person. Now, Leo XIV considers the development of artificial intelligence to pose possible similar challenges and so he understands his mission priority as navigating this technological development in a way that promotes the dignity of every human person.

In addition, I am confident that Leo XIV will continue to advocate for the rights of the poor, oppressed and the voiceless in our world. I hope that his humanitarian efforts will reawaken our consciences so we seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts, strive to alleviate human suffering, and protect human life.

As leader of the Church, I know he will continue to proclaim the Gospel in word and deed.
