The Pastoral Juvenil of the Diocese of Reno provides formation, accompaniment, and support to our young adults in their different needs and realities. Through the Pastoral Juvenil, our young adults can develop their gifts and talents to help the Church. We offer opportunities for personal growth and leadership development. We are committed to celebrating and living an experience of encounter with Jesus as a young Church.
The mission of Pastoral Juvenil in the Diocese of Reno is to:
We have a vision of a Church being a place where young adults feel at home, where their talents are recognized and their lives are supported and nurtured. Where young people exercise ministerial leadership through prayer and liturgy, catechesis, social ministry, and evangelization, all this in a spirit of ecclesial communion.
In the Diocese of Reno, the Pastoral Juvenil’s goal is to penetrate in the hearts of young people, in their experiences and models of life, in their culture and environment; to build a new humanity and to direct them towards a new way of being, judging, living and gathering, within the community of faith and in the environment where they are, moved by the Spirit that inspired the ministry and life of Jesus.

PASTORAL JUVENIL CELEBRATES “LAS POSADAS”
“Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth
in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David
called Bethlehem, because he was
descended from the house and family
of David” or “There was no place for
them in the inn”. (Luke 2:4-5)
“Las Posadas” are a Hispanic tradition from the first evangelization. The
missionaries taught the first converts to prepare for Christmas by praying an
“Awaiting Novena”. In time, this novena was enriched with elements of catechesis
which acquired a deep and prayerful meaning given by the people.
“Las Posadas” which means inn or lodging, is the beautiful and touching
commemoration of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem and their search for
shelter prior to the birth of Christ. Today, many immigrants worldwide seek a more
dignified life for their families. They often leave their homes in search of better
opportunities, facing challenges such as language barriers, discrimination, and
economic instability. As the family of Nazareth, they navigate these and numerous
other challenges, facing uncertainties and hardships, all to aim and ensure a
dignified future for their families.
Their courage and determination reflect a deep commitment to improving their
circumstances and achieving a life filled with hope and dignity. This journey often
involves sacrifices and an incredible amount of resilience as they adapt to new
cultures while holding onto their identities. Ultimately, their stories are a testament
to the universal desire for a better life and the lengths they are willing to go to
secure it for their loved ones.
During our Posada celebration, we honor and pray for them as we celebrate their
new country’s gifts, talents, and faith. It’s also a time for us to reflect on our role as
a community in supporting these families, whether it’s through advocacy, providing
resources, or simply offering a welcoming environment.
